Lilofee buzzes, glitters, glowers breathes an electric seduction. The San Francisco duo, composed of Rob Easson and Kimi Recor, met through friends in 2007 and bonded over their mutual interest in dark pop, industrial music, and the Beatles. As Kimi says, "the first time we played music together, we didn't leave the studio for 15 hours."
Recor's inspirations are folkloric - "I have a hard time writing anything that isn't fairy tales or poetry." And though dark beasts and haunted heroines clearly fill her head, Easson says they are essentially optimists - "we look at each other every day and laugh, because we know we have something."
As a live act, Lilofee transforms into a dynamic six piece, joined by drummer Dan Aquino (aka dmap! of SF rockers Every Move a Picture) and bassist Cyrus Etemad (co-producer of SF club institution "Loaded"). Their collective musical experience comes through in their dramatic live performances (standout performances include Mezzanine and Popscene, among others) and in their repertoire of stunning songs. It’s these skills that have captured the attention of artists like Groove Armada who tapped them to open their March 2010 show at The Fillmore.
Lilofee's sound fuses a pop/'60s-girl-band sensibility with darker, electro/industrial influences; much of it comes across like an extension of early 2000's electro (before it got immersed in endless irony) and would sit nicely beside the likes of Miss Kittin, or perhaps classic '80s new wave acts like Experimental Products. However, Lilofee's penchant for catchy, stick-in-your head hooks makes their music all the more seductive and accessible...
In December, Origami Vinyl and Future Sounds Records put on a limited edition 7” colored vinyl featuring the single “Runaway” and b-side, “In Flight.” 2010 is gearing up to be a busy year, with their full-length debut, "The Only Years" ready for release and putting the finishing touches on their second album.
Lilofee is set to release their single “Destroy Me” on FS Records Tuesday March 30, as well as premiere the BigStereo contest winning “Destroy Me” Remix and video. To coincide with this release, San Francisco's LIVE 105 have made them their band of the week
